Our intensive pediatric programs are individualized for each child and their needs. We provide physical training, speech therapy, and occupational therapy for a variety of disorders, including childhood aphasia, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, autism, sensory integration, developmental disabilities, genetic syndromes, and more.
The intensity of the program is dependent upon the individual child’s personality, abilities, and age. We work with the caregivers to design the program that is right for you and your child. A sample schedule may be for 3 hours daily, 3-5 days per week for 3-6 weeks. Therapy time would be spent on play-based speech therapy, strengthening the body for movement and stability, educating caregivers about alternative ways to accomplish school goals.
Intensive Childhood Aphasia Program
We know that there is a difference between a developmental language disorder and a language disorder known as aphasia. In developmental language disorders, the child does not develop language normally due to a variety of factors. However, aphasia is an acquired language disorder that affects reading, writing, speaking, and understanding that is based upon a neural insult, such as a stroke or brain injury. The child may have been typically developing before the neural insult, but now seems to have regressed due to the injury. We understand how difficult it is to get your child the help he or she needs for the aphasia, because the services that insurance will pay for and that the school provides are not enough. Intensive aphasia treatment in adults has been proven to be more effective than traditional therapy regimens over and over again, so why not apply these same treatments to younger persons with aphasia?
Our childhood intensive aphasia program is similar to the adult program in that the client receives a large number of hours of therapy per day for several weeks. We individualize the session schedule for each child, so the length of the program is dependent upon the child’s age and activity tolerance. We make every effort to design a program just for your family. Typically, the day would include 3-4 hours of speech therapy and physical rehabilitation. Speech therapy is specifically designed to provide functional communication in a play-type of atmosphere with frequent breaks and snacks if needed. Like our adult program, the childhood aphasia program has an open enrollment, so that you can choose the days that work best for your family.
